COVID-19 Vaccines Rollout Update

COVID Vaccine Bottles.jpg

At this time, the Ontario government is continuing the rollout of Phase One of its vaccine implementation plan. Currently, vaccinations are prioritized for the following vulnerable groups:

  • Residents, staff, essential caregivers, and other employees of congregate living settings that provide care for seniors (e.g., long-term care homes and retirement homes);

  • Health care workers (e.g., hospital employees, other staff who work or study in hospitals, and other health care personnel);

  • Adults in Indigenous communities, including remote communities where risk of transmission is high; and

  • Adult recipients of chronic home health care.

These groups have been prioritized because they are at higher risk of infection and/or serious illness from COVID-19. This will be followed by Phase 2 which is tentatively scheduled from March to July 2021 depending on the availability of vaccines. In phase 2, seniors starting with those 80 years and older will be prioritized. We currently do not have exact dates.

Details of the local plan including upcoming priority groups can be found at: https://www.peelregion.ca/coronavirus/vaccine/

As local vaccination efforts continue to expand in our community, sequencing of priority groups will be fluid and regularly updated.

The vaccine roll-out will also be supported by a robust communication plan, that will ensure that every resident in Peel knows when they will be able to receive the vaccine.

Please continue to visit our COVID-19 website for more information on the vaccine, general information, current measures in Peel and much more.
