Proactive Building and Maintenance Standards Program Passed!

I am very excited to announce that budget committee has approved a new proactive Apartment Building Standards and Maintenance Pilot Program.

I had heard from many of you and seen for myself the appalling condition of some apartments in the City. I have been doing my best to help, but the truth is the City of Mississauga did not have a strong enough program to ensure landlords maintain their buildings to standard.

Fed up with the situation, I asked City staff back in 2019 to come up with a plan to improve the condition of rental units in Mississauga. As a result, City staff designed a new program called the Apartment Buildings Standards and Maintenance Program to help improve the quality of rental buildings in Mississauga. A key feature is instead of reactive inspections after someone complains, we will proactively inspect every rental building in Mississauga.

The program will launch in 2022!
