On Family Day, Councillor Damerla, hosted the official unveiling of the new Cooksville letters sign.
The event was attended by over 150 residents and dignitaries who enjoyed a ribbon cutting ceremony, free food and hot drinks from local restaurant Potluck, live music and the chance to be one of the first to take a picture with the new sign.
“I was so pleased to see the excitement and enjoyment of the residents of Cooksville at seeing this new landmark sign” said Councillor Damerla, “This sign is about re-imagining Cooksville as an exciting place to live work and play. It is about place making and putting Cooksville on the map”.
The sign will stand as a landmark in Cooksville. The large “C” of the sign will have four seasonal facades: winter (current), historic Cooksville, summer and fall.
The installation of the sign is part of a larger plan to revitalize and reimagine Cooksville as a people oriented, human scaled, 15-minute neighbourhood. The kind of place where people can get their groceries, borrow a book, go for a walk in the park or grab a coffee and meet with friends within a 15-minute walk of where they live. That work has started with updates underway to the official plan, the establishment of a BIA that is working on beautification and local Cooksville events and a focus on creating fun and vibrant public spaces.
Dignitaries who attended included:
Local MP Peter Fonseca
Local councilors Stephen Dasko, Chris Fonseca, John Kovac, Carolyn Parrish and George Carlson
City Manager Paul Mitcham.
Cooksville BIA Chair Steven Smith and Vice Chair Luie D’Guera.
