October 2020
Dear Neighbour,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the first few days of Fall. This is one of my favourite times of the year while we can still enjoy the warm weather and fall colours have begun to emerge. I'm sure many of you have Thanksgving plans taking shape. Despite the challenges 2020 has given us it is good to take this time and remember all we have to be thankful for.
While making plans for your Thanksgiving weekend please consult the latest information to keep your family and community safe and follow the provincial and City of Mississauga rules and guidelines.

In September I hosted my first ever virtual Bingo night. We had lots of fun and a great turnout! Thank you to everyone who joined us. It's encouraging to see that even when we face challenges we can still come together as a community. Congratulations to the winners of the gas card prizes. Our next Bingo night is coming up October 21st at 7:00PM! Email Nada at nada.marjanovic@mississauga.ca to RSVP and let us know you're coming.
Coyotes
Having arrived at the Fall season, it is a time of year when some areas see an increase in coyote sightings. This is often due to fruit falling off trees and acting as an attractant to the coyote population. We have many of these trees in Ward 7. To avoid attracting these coyotes to your property we advise picking up any fruit that has fallen as soon as possible. If you see a coyote in your neighbourhood please call Animal Dispatch at 905-615-3000 to report it or CLICK HERE to visit our interactive coyote sightings map and online reporting centre. Make sure to keep your pets safe and supervised when outdoors.
Take the Pedestrian Master Plan Survey
We’re looking for your feedback on our first Pedestrian Master Plan to identify gaps in the pedestrian network. The plan will shape pedestrian connections across neighbourhoods, helping to enhance and create safe places for people to travel on foot, mobility-device and other methods of active transportation in Mississauga. Get involved and help us develop the plan by taking our online survey by October 23.
Fall/Winter Property Standards
The cooler months are upon us. If you are a property owner, manager or land owner (including home owners), it’s important to know how to prepare and maintain your property according to the City’s by-laws.
Here are a few common property standards that everyone should follow:
Trees: on private property, trees must be maintained so they don’t cause a safety hazard. If a tree is causing a problem, you can report a tree on private property to 3-1-1.
Leaf clearing: rake and bag your leaves in the appropriate yard waste bags for leaf pick-up during waste collection. The Region of Peel will be collecting yard waste until mid-December. Keep catchbasins clear of leaves to avoid blockages and reduce flood risk.
Litter, debris and pests: buildings must be kept free of debris at all times to prevent health hazards and pest infestations such as insects, rodents or vermin. Keep all catchbasins near or in your driveway and backyard clear of ice, snow or any litter or debris to ensure that water flows safely away from your property. You can report blocked street catchbasins to 3-1-1.
Adequate temperature: property owners, managers and land owners must maintain an indoor temperature range of between 20 degrees and 26 degrees Celsius year round.
Snow removal: to help keep your basement dry, pile snow and ice at least 2 metres or 6 feet away from your foundation. Owners of multi-unit residential buildings, commercial or industrial properties must keep all ramps, sidewalks and parking areas clear of ice and snow. Remember to apply salt only as per the directions on the package. Excess salt use is harmful to the environment and our drinking water.
To report a property that does not comply with City by-laws, you can call 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits).
