Renoviction By Law

There is a proposal coming to the City Council to introduce a Hamilton-style Renoviction By Law.  It would require all landlords, big and small, to provide

  1. Proof from  a qualified professional that the renovations cannot be completed without evicting the tenant

  2. Provide the tenant being evicted with comparable accommodation or monetary compensation while the renovations are being done.

  3. Provide the tenant the right to return to the renovated unit at the old rent

  4. Require a $750 renovation license per unit
