Year End 2020
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Dear Neighbour,
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and the happiest of Holiday Seasons.
Despite a challenging year our office made progress on some important projects for Ward 7. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I have decided to show progress through pictures.
I'm looking forward to carrying that momentum into the new year and I know we'll make 2021 a great one.
Best wishes to you and yours,
Dipika

The Cooksville Park Expansion is Becoming a Reality
As the before and after photos show, what used to be homes are now slowly becoming much needed parkland in the heart of Cooksville. The top two photos show the homes purchased by the city and the bottom two photos shows the parkland that has replaced the homes.
As always, it is my assurance to all that the expansion is taking place only on a willing buyer, willing seller basis.
The Cooksville BIA from an Idea to a Reality
The BIA is operational now. Back in the Summer of 2019, I have a vivid memory of going door to door to a hand deliver notices (pictured above) to local Cooksville businesses to try and drum up interest in creating a BIA. This was followed by a creation of a steering committee and many months of consultations with stakeholders that helped launch the BIA.
Today, the BIA is operational with a hard working board trying to negotiate the challenges thrown by COVID 19. The board chair is Steven Smith. He can be reached at biacooksville@gmail.com
New Community Garden Coming 2021!
Today
Coming soon!
I'm excited to announce that I am working on a new community garden in Cooksville. The garden will offer opportunities to local residents to have their own space to cultivate plants and vegetables. I'm looking forward to getting your input to make it a great space that can bring the community together. In January, I will be sending you details for a virtual townhill, to get your input into what you would like to see in the garden.
Neighbourhood Speed Limit Reduction Project
This year we made progress on one of the most pressing issues in our neighbourhoods, "Speeding". One key initiative is reducing the speed limit from 50km/hr to 40km/hr. Below is a map of ward 7. If you live in the yellow shaded areas in the map below, you have either already seen the speed limit reduced to 40km or will see it happen in Jan- Mar 2021. If you live in the neighbourhood still white, rest assured that I am working on reducing the speed limits later in 2021.
Dundas and Hurontario Parkette Improvements
The Dundas and Huronatio Parkette has seen its share of challenges this year. We have already begun work to improve the area and make it more resident and shopper friendly. More work is coming in the new year to turn it back into a vibrant, engaging space!
Bollards on Stavebank and Premium Way
We brought the bollards back! Many of you told me the bollards on Stavebank and Premium Way were working as an effective speed calming measure so I was happy to have them brought back for 2020. I will be looking to have them implemented again in 2021.
Parker Hill Playground Improvements
Before
After
It is always great to see the facilities our kids use get improvements and I am very happy we could complete the upgrades to the playground at Parkerhill this year. All equipment was replaced with new features added as well. I look forward to seeing it get lots of use in the spring!
Streets Resurfaced
Important resurfacing work was done in several areas of Ward 7 this year. Major work was done in Erindale Village. As a City we are always striving to make sure your roads are well taken care of.
Wishing you the best for 2021,
Dipika
